From the Son of an Entrepreneur

As the son of a successful entrepreneur, I have witnessed firsthand the sacrifices and hardships my mother has endured to get to where she is today. Her journey has been anything but easy, but she has turned her dreams into a reality through sheer determination, perseverance, and faith.

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend a conference with my mom and joined her at an It's Not Just a Dinner event. As I looked at this powerful group of women sharing their stories, I was truly amazed and humbled. Most of all, I was filled with an overwhelming sense of pride and admiration for my own mom.

As a single mom with no money, no job, and no place to go, to say my mother faced challenges is an understatement. She overcame the early death of her beloved mother, delivered a premature baby, and overcame years of domestic violence. Despite this and much more, she never let a temporary obstacle become a permanent setback.

My mother's resilience and determination have always inspired me, but at that moment, I could see and feel how powerful her story really was. I was taken back to my childhood when she worked tirelessly to provide for my sister and me. She built her business from the ground up, working long hours, taking chances, and doing whatever it took to build a lasting legacy for our family.

But through it all, she never lost sight of what was truly important. She always put her family first and never let her success change who she was. My mother is not only an incredibly successful businesswoman, but she is also an amazing mother, wife, sister, and friend.

Because of her sacrifices and endless work, my mother has had to persevere through things I know I never will. Seeing her achieve her goals and dreams has been one of the greatest blessings in my life.

As I walked away from the dinner that night, I couldn't help but feel inspired by my mother's story. Her journey has taught me that anything is possible with hard work, determination, and a little faith.

To my mom, LaFarris L. Risby, you are confident, you are smart, you are worthy, you are powerful, you are knowledgeable, you are my mother, and I love you.
