Thank you, Roxie.

This  month,  I celebrate the beautiful strong women in my life. For me, you see, my grandmother stands out.

Women's History Month serves as a powerful reminder of the significant contributions women have made throughout history and their ongoing impact on society. It provides a platform to celebrate the achievements, resilience, and leadership of women from all walks of life. Women's History Month amplifies the voices and experiences of women, ensuring that their stories are heard and recognized. My grandmother is no different.

In the early 1900s, she was a midwife and was called '“Dr. Roxie”. During this time, blacks were not allowed to sign birth certificates and many babies she delivered were never recognized. This month, I want to say “thank you” to my grandmother for getting a college education and becoming a midwife. Her accomplishments and determination taught our family the value of education. This month, I want to salute you and say, “Thank you, Grandmother, for all of your achievements”.

Women's History Month encourages reflection on the progress made toward gender equality and the work that remains to be done. It prompts conversations about the systemic barriers and inequalities that women continue to face; advocating for greater inclusivity, representation, and opportunities for women of all backgrounds. Additionally, Women's History Month inspires our future generations of women to dream big and pursue their ambitions without limitations.
